John Sevy

Independent Artist

John Sevy is a versatile drummer, recording artist, and educator whose musical identity is deeply rooted in jazz and commercial drum set and percussion. Based in Denver, Colorado, he appears everywhere from jazz clubs and commercial events to orchestral pops concerts and national tours. His work includes engagements with the Vienna Light Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic, Ballet Indiana, Columbus Symphony, and the Diamond Empire Band, as well as performances with leading artists such as Grammy-winner Steven Feifke, Fabian Almazan, Greg Gisbert, Zach Rich, Brad Goode, and Alex Wignall. John also records actively, appearing on projects by Plain Faraday, Rocco Lc Williams, Alex Wignall, and Matt Acosta, in addition to releasing his own upcoming album The Gardener.

John is equally passionate about education. He serves on the faculty at the Community College of Denver and the Center for Musical Arts, while also maintaining his own private lesson studio. His guest teaching engagements include Adams State University, the University of Colorado Boulder, and Murray State University, where he has presented multi-day clinics on drum set coordination, drum set for the modern percussionist, improvisation, and creative practice. John also coaches numerous rhythm sections and percussion studios at the high school and collegiate levels.

Before returning to Colorado, John spent three years as an Associate Instructor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, teaching private lessons, percussion methods, and coaching ensemble percussion sections. He holds degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder (BM, summa cum laude) and Indiana University (MM and PD). Across all his work, John approaches drumming with conviction and curiosity, dedicated to creating inviting, memorable, and deeply authentic musical experiences.

"I've never been more excited to record and gig with a set of drums! WTS understands how hard it is to play contrasting genres on the same set of drums- they've completely changed the game, allowing me to get the exact sound I need in seconds, whether I'm at a jazz club, orchestral hall, on tour, or playing any other number of genres we drummers have to play!"
