Martin Krümmling

Hey Jetman | Lasse Matthiessen | Yusuf Sahilli Band | Defne Sahin | Anna Webber's Percussive Mechanics

Martin Krümmling (1984) is a Berlin-based jazz drummer and composer whose playing is characterized by an open aesthetic and a distinct multi-layered sound.

Originally from the German state Thuringia, Martin made his way into the Berlin music scene in 2004, where he studied at the Jazz Institute Berlin with John Hollenbeck and Holger Nell. He was honored with a position in the German Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) from 2007 until 2010. In 2009, on a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), he moved to New York to pursue a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music with teachers like John Riley, Dave Liebman, Phil Markowitz Jason Moran.

His first record, The Vision Behind, translates the experiences of a two year stint in the pulsating atmosphere of New York City into an artistic statement. The album, recorded in Brooklyn in early 2011, showcases Krümmling as both a drummer and a composer through six well-crafted original compositions as well as one slyly arranged standard (Pent-up House). It also features New York-based musicians Desmond White (bass), Can Olgun (piano), and Anna Webber (tenor sax and flute), plus special guest Mark Turner (tenor sax). The recording was released on March 16, 2012 on the Swiss label Unit Records.

Later that year, Martin was invited to the prestigious Monk Competition Semi Final of 2012.

In 2018, Martin released the first Album ("I go out") of his Pop project "Hey Jetman" as a singer, drummer, keyboard player, and composer.

In addition to leading his own band, Krümmling is also an in-demand sideman, playing with a diverse range of acts – from straight-ahead jazz meets Turkish poetry in Defne Sahin's quartet, to pop music in the bands of Lasse Matthiessen and Yusuf Sahilli, to the experimental sounds of Anna Webber's Percussive Septet. He has played and performed with great musicians such as Ed Partyka, Lage Lund, David Friedman, Maucha Adnet, and Bill Dobbins.

"This is exactly what I have been waiting for! Drums that are so easy to tune for the purpose of the song that you're playing that moment. The shells itself have such a great warm sound and work within a wide range of tunings.

And not to forget the tuning system- it just works! It is perfect for my style of drumming! It looks beautiful and it sounds great!

Also the shipping from the US to Germany worked perfectly and I had very helpful assistance for the first assembly!"

Hey Jetman

It’s satorial, it’s pop, it’s coming right up: informed by jazz and smart elegance, Hey Jetman brings pop and waves of past millennia into our frantic days. They’re here to fill playlists, right after Joe Jackson and just before Father John Misty. They're here to tell stories. Of Parklife and of Street Life. Time stops ticking away and this Berlin band cracks open doors to rooms seldom seen yet tidy and enchanting. Born from the mind of drummer/ composer/ singer Martin Krümmling, Hey Jetman enters the fray with inspired songwriting and elegant arrangements. It’s pop music, endearing and confident.

Yusuf Sahilli

Yusuf Sahilli might sound like a blues man, or a new romantic, growling about wild nights spent searching, or letting his sweet tenor voice indulge in lustful melancholy moods. Fully buzzed on global sounds and brimming with boundless feel good passion and sympathy for the whole wide world.

He had connected to the Alternative Rock soundtrack of his generation and dug deep and fast into the history of the trade. From the Rock dinosaurs and the golden age of Pop through the Hippie era, the Beat of the Sixties and the protest movement right down to the founding fathers of the Blues in the Delta.

Lasse Matthiessen

Born in Copenhagen, and now living part-time in Berlin, Matthiessen writes music to share stories. Having recorded his last EP in an old bunker in the Kreuzberg area, he didn’t want to be limited by the technical restrictions of a ‘cool’ studio, and felt that this venue suited his expressive and raw sound perfectly.

Now, having supported artists such as Suzanne Vega and Anna Calvi, Matthiessen hopes to work his way into listener’s hearts with this latest impassioned collection of tracks.
